I like giving artist a lot of freedom to add their own style into the mix. I'd say the only two things I'd properly ask of the artist:
1) Make sure the muzzle isn't too canine-like (elongated, etc). Elongated/canine-looking muzzles on my character tend to make him look like a fox/dog
2) The body physique should be in the neighborhood of "the guy next door who goes to the gym but doesn't necessarily live there".
My character often has been portrayed as twink-like but I'd like to move away from that. :)

Seeing artists interrupt my character in their own style
Really long snout / muzzle (makes my character look too much like a canine/dog/fox)
Appearing too lithe/slender/feminine— while I have some art of him like this, I want to move the sona more towards a more accurate reflection of the "real life" me
Appearing too muscular — if I keep working out IRL, maybe someday I will update this art preference. Until then, I probably should not look like I can lift 1000kg :P
